Rise! Pre-Orders of Keenspot’s MARK SPEARS MONSTERS #2 Up 29% Over First Issue’s Initial Orders
LOS ANGELES, CA – October 11, 2024 – Comic book publisher Keenspot is thrilled to announce that the second issue of its Mark Spears Monsters series has achieved a rare feat in comics – seeing orders rise instead of drop! Diamond pre-orders for issue #2 are up more than 29% over the excellent initial orders of issue #1. Mark Spears Monsters #2 is scheduled for release on November 20th, with a cover price of $5.99.
Issue #1 hit stores on September 18th, immediately selling out of its 13,000-copy print run. The first issue then went to a second printing of 4,500 copies, for a total of 17,500 copies combined. The issue #1 second print is currently scheduled to hit stores October 30th, barring shipping delays due to Hurricane Milton.
COVRPRICE.COM named #1’s Cover E the hottest-selling comic book cover in the marketplace for two weeks in a row, and it remains in the Top 7 this week. The “Bridezilla” variant has been selling for as high as $150 (more than 25 times its cover price) on eBay.
Mark Spears Monsters is a bimonthly series from Keenspot, created, written, and illustrated by award-winning cover artist Mark Spears (who is also illustrator of the just-announced McFarlane comic series Spawn 77 launching April 2025). Based on his hit trading card series of the same name, Spears brings classic monsters to life with a modern twist.
The comic book series is set in the early 1980s and follows a retired Monster Slayer from a forgotten era. After learning that an old friend has disappeared and a malevolent force from his past has resurfaced, the mysterious Slayer is pulled back into the realm of the supernatural, determined to confront the ancient evil once again and prevent it from wreaking havoc on the world once more. Meanwhile, two seasoned detectives are investigating a series of grisly murders, and a group of kids embark on their own adventure after witnessing what they believe to be their recently deceased neighbor wandering the streets at night.
Mark Spears Monsters #1 isn’t the first Keenspot horror title to sell out and go to a second printing this year -- Niall O’Rourke’s hit The Crying Boy from this past summer is a recent example. The 4-issue mini-series about a haunted painting is also now in the works as a feature film adaptation.
