Keenspot’s MARK SPEARS MONSTERS #1 Sells Out Instantly, Second Printing Announced For Halloween

LOS ANGELES, CA – September 26, 2024 – Comic book publisher Keenspot has announced that the first issue of its Mark Spears Monsters series instantly sold out of a 13,000-copy first printing at the distributor level before even hitting comic shops on September 18th. A second printing has been solicited and is now available for retailers to pre-order through Diamond Comic Distributors, with a Final Order Cutoff (FOC) of September 30th.

The second printing has two all-new Halloween-themed covers by Mark Spears, the regular “Trick Or Treat” cover and a 20-copy ratio Retailer Incentive Variant that is a homage to the original “Halloween” movie poster.

From the first printing, CVRPRICE.COM named Cover E the hottest-selling comic book cover in the marketplace, the only non-Marvel title in their Top 9, for the week of September 23rd. The “Bridezilla” variant has been selling for as high as $50 (more than eight times its cover price) on eBay.

Mark Spears Monsters is a bimonthly series from Keenspot, created, written, and illustrated by rising superstar cover artist Mark Spears (Spawn Universe, Absolute Power, Action Comics, Power Rangers). Based on his hit trading card series of the same name, Spears brings classic monsters to life with a modern twist.

The comic book series is set in the early 1980s and follows a retired Monster Slayer from a forgotten era. After learning that an old friend has disappeared and a malevolent force from his past has resurfaced, the mysterious Slayer is pulled back into the realm of the supernatural, determined to confront the ancient evil once again and prevent it from wreaking havoc on the world once more. Meanwhile, two seasoned detectives are investigating a series of grisly murders, and a group of kids embark on their own adventure after witnessing what they believe to be their recently deceased neighbor wandering the streets at night.

In addition to producing Monsters and illustrating covers for various popular mainstream comics, Spears is also supplying both interior and cover art for Spawn ‘77, an upcoming Image Comics mini-series which Todd McFarlane is scripting from Mark's plot.

Mark Spears Monsters #1 isn’t the first Keenspot horror title to sell out and go to a second printing this year -- Niall O’Rourke’s hit The Crying Boy from this past summer is a recent example. The 4-issue mini-series about a haunted painting is also now in the works as a feature film adaptation.
